141 A Case of Postmenopausal Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

HJ Lee, SJ Ha, HO Kim, JW Kim. Department of Dermatology, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, Korea

Postmenopausal frontal fibrosing alopecia is a recently described, rare scarring alopecia. The disease is characterized by progressive frontal recession in postmenopausal women with clinical features of a fibrosing alpecia. The histologic findings are indistinguishable from those seen in lichen planopilaris. Postmenopausal frontal fibrosing alopecia has been reported mostly in white women and is especially rare in Asian women. We describe a typical case of postmenopausal frontal fibrosing alpecia in a Korean woman. A 60-year-old woman presented with progressive scarring alopecia of frontotemporal hairlines. Histologic examination showed perifollicular fibrosis and inflammatory infiltrates around the infundibular and isthmus portion. Postmenopausal frontal fibrosing alopecia may be more common than it is reported, and careful examination is needed in elderly female patients with frontal recession.
