P-22   ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION IN ALOPECIA AREATA PATIENTS

SE Marrón Moya, L. Tomás Aragonés, P. Vaque Castilla, AC Cabistany Esqué, MC Royo Lastra Department of Dermatology. Ernest Lluch Hospital. Calatayud. Zaragoza.

Introduction: Alopecia areata is one of the skin diseases often linked to anxiety and depression. Material and Method: We have assessed 36 patients from our hospital area with alopecia areata in its different clinical forms. We used the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) as a psychometric test to assess both anxiety and depression, as well as the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Results: We present the results of the psychometric tests as well as social-demographic information (sex, age, marital status, place of residence, work situation, job, psychiatric or psychological treatment, and stressful events over the last year). Conclusions: The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) is a test to assess anxiety and depression in patients with medical-surgical complaints. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) is an excellent test to assess anxiety. We have used these tests to try to determine whether alopecia areata has any effect on anxiety and depression or not and to what extent it has an effect.
