DH-3923 Topical Solution (DH) is a hair growth reagent containing 2%-carpronium chloride with local vasodilatory effect and several kinds of herbal extracts for hair growth. By using the phototrichogram, we studied 19 subjects with male pattern baldness to evaluate the efficacy of DH. The 2mL of DH were taken twice daily for 24 weeks in this study. The method of measurement was as follows: the hairs in a certain bald area (about 8x8 mm) were clipped to record the images of the scalp. After 2 days, the image of the same area was recorded again and the hair diameter, hair growth rate and the number of hairs in the area were measured. As a result, we observed that the hair diameter was thickened by an average of 2.31 mm (p=0.175), non-vellus hairs (hair diameter >40 mm) rate was increased by an average of 8.47% (p=0.030), and the number of hair was increased to 13.84 (n/cm2) (p=0.028). The study also showed that the average of hair growth rate (as proportion of the number of hairs with their growth rate per day >0.2mm, and their diameter >40 mm in total hair counts) increased by 5.77% (p=0.087). Our results indicate that DH is an effective solution for male pattern baldness.
